Great places in Iowa City, Iowa...

Jill and I have been going to Iowa City once a year for the annual Iowa Arts Festival and have really grown to love it. Jill's business is Hooey Batiks and we set up at the art show every summer. However, we are creatures of habit and tend to eat and shop at the same places each year. I'll keep adding to this list as we try new places. If you have any recommendations, send them my way. Here's what we've got so far:

Devotay
117 North Linn, (319) 354-1001

Marco's Grilled Cheese
(find him on the Ped Mall)

What's not to like about a grilled cheese sandwich from a street vendor? and only $3.00! add some ham and it' still only $4.00 -- that's like stealing. He's also got quesadilla's and some other things but it's "Marco's Grilled Cheese" so get the grilled cheese.

Mickey's
11 South Dubuque, (319) 338-6860

We go to Mickey's for breakfast -- Bloody Mary's (with a beer back), excellent coffee, and the "3 My Way" breakfast (3 eggs, sourdough toast, hash browns and their secret recipe sausage). It'll stop my heart some day but until then... bring it on!

New Pioneer Food Co-op

Oh my god! What an amazing store -- fresh produce, breads, pastries, fish, wine... in fact, everything you could ever want and all very high quality. Excellent prices (if you are not a member it's only 5% more). I cannot imagine why anyone wouldn't go here.

Red Avocado
512 East Washington, (319) 351-6088

Amazing all-organic vegan food -- and if you stop in across the street at the Food Co-op you can pick up a bottle of wine and they'll cork it (or un-screw it in our case) for a slim five dollars. I had the Radish Miso soup and a Falafel Waffle this time.
