Welcome Film Lovers...
Hello and welcome to That's Rentertainment -- the last locally owned and operated video store in the Champaign-Urbana / University of Illinois area. That's Rentertainment caters to film fans (and fanatics) who have grown tired of the typical Blockbuster fare. We specialize in International, independent, classic American and Art House films on DVD (with a handful of VHS tapes left over that have never been released on DVD). With almost 45,000 DVDs and over 4,500 BluRay discs, That’s Rentertainment has the largest collection of movies in the entire Champaign-Urbana area -- if not all of Illinois. We get new movies every week -- if you want to be kept up to date about them sign up for our weekly e-mail update or check out our New Arrivals page. Membership is free (requiring only 2 photo IDs, or an ID and credit card) and rentals can be as cheap as $1.00 per disc. So, come on down and check out what you've been missing!

This Week's New Release Message
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
Maps to the Stars
Taken 3

Greetings everyone,

This week's biggest titles are: "Cake" (w/Jennifer Aniston, Anna Kendrick, Britt Robertson, Lucy Punch, etc), "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night" (directed by Ana Lily Amirpour), "Maps to the Stars" (directed by David Cronenberg; w/Julianne Moore, Robert Pattinson, Mia Wasikowska and John Cusack) and "Taken 3" (w/Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen and Forest Whitaker). Also of interest: Sylvia Chang's "20 30 40" (2004), Frank Whaley's "Like Sunday, Like Rain" (2014) and Ming-liang Tsai's "Stray Dogs" (2013). On the TV front we picked up Fortitude S1 and Musketeers S2. And, we grabbed a copy of "The Son of the Sheik" (1926; w/Rudolph Valentino and Vilma Bánky). Lastly, we got a stack of new Criterion BluRay discs: Yasujirô Ozu's "An Autumn Afternoon" (1962), Jean Renoir's "A Day in the Country" (1936), Errol Morris' "Gates of Heaven/Vernon, Florida" (1978/1981), Guy Maddin's "My Winnipeg" (2007), Jean Renoir's "The River" (1951), Federico Fellini's "Fellini Satyricon" (1969), Preston Sturges' "Sullivan's Travels" (1941) and Martin Rosen's "Watership Down" (1983). You can check out all of this week's new arrivals below.

Mike Nichol's "The Birdcage " (1996; w/Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest) is the top renter in our Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender section. The second most rented title is John Cameron Mitchell's "Hedwig and the Angry Inch " (2001) followed by Cory Krueckeberg's "Getting Go, the Go Doc Project" (2013). Two of the top renters from last time around (Yen Tan's "Pit Stop" and Travis Mathews' "Interior. Leather Bar") dropped a bit farther down the Top 10, a couple of others ("Hot Guys with Guns" and "Cruel & Unusual") shuffled around a bit and "Burning Blue", "Five Dances" and "Test" are all new to the list. Here are the Top Renters from the GLBT section:
7 PIT STOP (2013)

Have a great week...

Geoff (and all the other Rentertarians)

What's the "The Itty Bitty Bike Shop"?
Right when you walk into Rentertainment, you may have noticed what might very well be the smallest bike shop in the world (right now it's about 2' x 2') sitting where the Pepsi machine used to sit. We call it the "Itty Bitty Bike Shop". It's got all the basics for your commuting needs: chain lube, inner tubes, lights, multi-tools, patch kits, some reflectors, tire levers, water bottles, locks, and, of course, the Urbana-Champaign Bike map. We've also got a pump (schrader and presta) in case you need some air. Ride safely! We've got lots more stuff at the main IttyBittyBikeShop (tucked away just north of Downtown Urbana in Parasol Records)

Essential Art House Films: 50 Years of Janus Films
Quite a few years ago (2007!) I decided to watch the entire Essential Art House box set -- one film per week in the order presented in the box, alphabetical chronological order. I wrote one paragraph reviews of each film as I watched them. If you want, you can read the reviews here.
