Welcome Film Lovers...
Hello and welcome to That's Rentertainment -- the last locally owned and operated video store in the Champaign-Urbana / University of Illinois area. That's Rentertainment caters to film fans (and fanatics) who have grown tired of the typical Blockbuster fare. We specialize in International, independent, classic American and Art House films on DVD (with a handful of VHS tapes left over that have never been released on DVD). With almost 45,000 DVDs and over 4,500 BluRay discs, That’s Rentertainment has the largest collection of movies in the entire Champaign-Urbana area -- if not all of Illinois. We get new movies every week -- if you want to be kept up to date about them sign up for our weekly e-mail update or check out our New Arrivals page. Membership is free (requiring only 2 photo IDs, or an ID and credit card) and rentals can be as cheap as $1.00 per disc. So, come on down and check out what you've been missing!

This Week's New Release Message
Annabelle
Boxtrolls
The Drop
Lucy

Greetings everyone,

This week's biggest new releases include: "Annabelle" (w/Annabelle Wallis and Alfre Woodard), "The Boxtrolls" (w/voices of Ben Kingsley, Toni Collette, Elle Fanning, etc), "The Drop" (w/Tom Hardy, James Gandolfini and Noomi Rapace) and "Lucy" (w/Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman). There were also a few other titles of note: "Pride" (w/Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West and Paddy Considine), "Rudderless" (directed by William H Macy; w/Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Selena Gomez, etc) and "The Zero Theorem" (directed by Terry Gilliam; w/Christoph Waltz, Melanie Thierry and David Thewlis). Robin Bell's "Positive Force: More Than A Witness: 30 Years Of Punk Politics In Action" is a very interesting documentary on Positive Force, a DC based punk activist collective. We also got another pile of International TV shows: The Eagle S3 (Denmark), Inspector and the Sea S1 (Sweden/Germany) and Irene Huss S4 (Sweden). On the Anime front, we finally found a copy of "Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series" on BluRay. And, from a customer's recommendation, we picked up Michael Ritchie's teen beauty pageant satire, "Smile" (1975; w/Bruce Dern and Barbara Feldon). You can check out all of this week's new arrivals below.

With school back in session, we are back to our regular hours but we've changed those a bit: we now close at 9 on weekdays and Sundays. So, our New Regular Hours are: Monday - Thursday (10am - 9pm), Friday (10am - 10pm), Saturday (11am - 10pm), Sunday (noon - 9pm)

This time around, "The Lego Movie" knocked "Monsters University" off the podium but both Disney's "Frozen" and Universal's "Despicable Me 2" managed to hold their spots -- and "Monsters University" only dropped down a bit farther in the Top 10. It's nice to see the French title, "Ernest & Celestine" and Wes Anderson's "Fantastic Mr Fox" holding their own in the Top 10. The rest of the Top Renters in the Animated Section are the usual mix of Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks and Simpsons with a handful of lesser know titles thrown in. If you are looking for some less popular and more obscure animated titles, spend some time digging around in the section, you'll find some classic stuff by Ralph Bakshi ("Wizards"), Jules Feiffer ("Monro"), Cordell Barker ("The Cat Came Back"), Don Hertzfeldt ("Rejected"), Richard Condie ("The Big Snit") along with collections of shorts (Academy Award winners and others) and lots more. There's something for everyone back there! Don't worry, if you are looking for Studio Ghibli (Hayao Miyazaki) titles and don't see any -- they dominate the Top 100 Anime list. Here are the Top 100 rentals from our Animated section:
1 FROZEN (2013)
2 LEGO MOVIE, THE
3 DESPICABLE ME 2
4 CLOUDY W/ A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2
5 WRECK-IT RALPH
6 MONSTERS UNIVERSITY
7 HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2
8 TANGLED (2010)
9 ERNEST & CELESTINE
10 FANTASTIC MR. FOX
(a longer version of this list and more "Top 100" lists can be found here)

Have a great week...

Geoff (and all the other Rentertarians)

What's the "The Itty Bitty Bike Shop"?
Right when you walk into Rentertainment, you may have noticed what might very well be the smallest bike shop in the world (right now it's about 2' x 2') sitting where the Pepsi machine used to sit. We call it the "Itty Bitty Bike Shop". It's got all the basics for your commuting needs: chain lube, inner tubes, lights, multi-tools, patch kits, some reflectors, tire levers, water bottles, locks, and, of course, the ChampaignCountyBikes.org Urbana-Champaign Bike map. We've also got a pump (schrader and presta) in case you need some air. Ride safely! We've got lots more stuff at the main IttyBittyBikeShop (tucked away just north of Downtown Urbana in Parasol Records)

Essential Art House Films: 50 Years of Janus Films
Quite a few years ago (2007!) I decided to watch the entire Essential Art House box set -- one film per week in the order presented in the box, alphabetical chronological order. I wrote one paragraph reviews of each film as I watched them. If you want, you can read the reviews here.
