League of American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly Business |
| In April 2012, the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) designated That's Rentertainment as a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Business. Thank you to everyone who voted and put in a kind word for us during the process. We are one of 67 businesses nationwide to receive this designation during this cycle -- and the only video store on the list. As a life-long resident and a cyclist for almost as long, I am honored to have received this award and plan to continue doing all I can to promote safe commuting and recreational bicycling in the Campustown and Urbana-Champaign area. |
| From the LAB web site: "A Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) is a corporation, organization, association, government agency, or non-profit that actively promotes bicycling for transportation, recreation, exercise, and sport. A BFB practices social responsibility by weaving bicycling into the business culture and gives employees the opportunity to be active stewards of their personal and environmental health through bicycling." |
Some of the things we do:
• The Itty Bitty Bike Shop: We opened a tiny (4 square feet) bike shop in That's Renterainment to supply commuters with the very basics (tubes, lights, reflectors, etc)... and a pump. Profits go to local bicycle groups.
• We support local bicycle organizations: I am a member of the Prairie Cycle Club and Champaign County Bikes and donate to The Bike Project and The Illini 4000 for Cancer.
• We support state and national bicycling organizations: I am a member of both the League of Illinois Bicyclists (LIB) and the League of American Bicyclists (LAB).
• We created and maintain the UC Bike Ride web page which includes lots of bicycling information, links, maps, etc for noth commuters and area-wide cycling tourists.
• We set up the BikeRide! Google group as a way to facilitate longer distance bicycle rides in the Urbana-Champaign area.
• We set up the Bicycle Friendly UIUC blog to identify and document problematic bicycle infrastructure on the University of Illinois campus.
• We stock a wide array of videos related to cycling. |
